The CAST Overnight Winter Shelter for the homeless will not be able to host guests in the local churches at least through December and likely thru the entire 2020-21 winter season. Usually, each church hosts a week to cover 20 to 22 weeks (November thru April. Simply, the churches are closed and when they open up there will be strict Sunday service guidelines limiting people, the distance between people, etc. Thus we anticipate no CAST 2020-21 sheltering.

However, under the ANNOUNCEMENTS tab, you'll see the new AGAPE FEAST COMMUNITY MEALS program developed once COVID-19 abruptly ended the CAST overnight winter sheltering program. The City of Chesapeake Department of Human Services was able and continues to house approximately 24 homeless guests. The Agape Feast Community Meals program was started to organize the churches and groups in the preparation of the delivered dinners. There is a protocol in place to minimize contact and COVID-19 exposure. For churches and organizations to volunteer to host a week (Monday - Sunday), Mercy Chefs has volunteered to cover meal prep for two of the dinners (not consecutive days).
